Kilgore netters take down Grace, start 3A slate this week

Turns out Class 3A is suiting Kilgore High School’s tennis program just fine.

The Bulldogs “Our girls dominated the courts,” won yet again on Tuesday, beating Grace Community, 12-7, at the courts at Tyler Junior College.
Senior Autria Compton lost to Danielle Quevado, 3-8; Barnfield beat Callan Herwood, 8-4; Venable beat Abigail Bently, 8-1; Stokes beat Lauren Bone, 8-1; Jasleen Cabrera beat Grace’s Autumn VanBurskirk, 8-0; and Grace defaulted the No. 6 girls singles.

The girls doubles teams swept Grace. Compton and Barnfield beat Herwood and Bone, 8-1; Venable and Stokes won by the same score over Bently and VanBurskirk; and the No. 3 Grace girls team defaulted.

Kilgore is back in action next weekend at Wills Point to face both WP and Van.

In boys play, Thomas beat Weeden, but Grace got the upper hand in a few matches. Lanka lost, 3-8, to Alex Langford. Kilgore’s Bryn Heil lost to Logan Park, 7-9; Jesse Presley beat Filmore, 9-7; Kilgore’s Evan Knutsen beat Christian Bone, 8-0; and Nash Best lost to Grace’s Daniel Zandstra, 7-9.

In boys doubles, Thomas and Lanka won, but Knutsen and William Muir lost to Par and Weeden, 3-8, and Best and Rohit Lanka lost to Zandstra and Bone, 5-8.

Grace won the mixed doubles matchup, as well, as Cabrera and Heil lost to Quevedo and Hudgens, 1-8.
