Kilgore ISD Superintendent Resigns

Dear Faculty, Staff and Community

For the past 4 ½ years we have sat out on an adventure that has taken us through good times and bad times. As I shared with you at convocation, we have set goals, fought battles and have seen great progress and victories along the way. Some of my proudest moments as a KISD employee and Superintendent have been to see the impact we have had on our children. My goal in 2008 was to focus our schools on academics, raise our test scores, work on getting new schools and become a more efficient school district financially with the primary goal of putting kids first as the focus. We as a family have been able to see each and every one of those goals accomplished. We have experienced long list of academic awards from state robotics competition, to national writing awards. Increases in our UIL competition and success, double digit increases in our TAKS scores, as well as a focused attempt to better prepare our kids for the future have been realized. We have 2 new schools under construction and 2 others being remodeled. We have received awards for financial transparency and have been able to continue to keep our staff and give bonuses and raises when others are cutting jobs. And we now sit in a financial position that will allow us to weather the storms of the slow economic times. We have all worked together and have accomplished these goals. We still have work to do, but I am confident that great strides will continue.

With all of that being said, it is after much prayer and consideration that I will be tendering my resignation as Superintendent of Schools for Kilgore ISD. I was hired today at 1:00 to take a position as Assistant Superintendent of Administrative and Student Services at Longview ISD. My career goals have always been to obtain a Superintendents job in a large 5A district, I have had numerous opportunities over the past few years to leave and pursue that goal, however, none of them seemed to be the right time or place. I believe that in order to achieve my personal goals that I need to gain more experience and knowledge at the big district level. I feel this opportunity to stay close at home and gain this knowledge cannot be turned down. I also will take this time to continue to pursue my Doctorate degree which has been on hold for the past few years due to my work level.

The timing of my exit is not great; however this has been an ongoing process throughout the summer that has culminated today with me being hired at Longview. My plans are to stay until September 14th and tie up some loose ends in the district. Effective Friday August 31st, Deputy Superintendent Dennis Williams will take over as Interim Superintendent until such time as the board can meet and determine their plan for replacement of the Superintendents position. I am very confident that the staff can keep things going and handle this transition. I have been blessed to have a great staff, board and community. I hope only the best for the future.

It feels good to leave a district on good terms and have a sense of accomplishment. I look forward to being involved at Kilgore through my wife’s employment and my son’s attendance at Chandler. I look forward to seeing the completion of the new schools and seeing KISD achieve the highest ratings academically. Please pray for me and my family as we start this new chapter in our lives. I would appreciate your support during this transition.

Thanks

Jody Clements
