Education Foundation Announces Plan to Boost Technology in Elementary Classrooms and Libraries
Classrooms at Kilgore Heights elementary and Kilgore Intermediate School have recently received iPads through other programs. This new initiative will extend that plan to Chandler Elementary School (grades 1-3). Each teacher will be eligible for an iPad to be used for direct instruction, student activities, professional development, or whatever uses the teachers and students can imagine.
All teachers will be trained on strategies to use the equipment to inspire student creativity. design digital-age learning experiences, and interact as digital citizens. Teachers will also learn to model digital-age learning as well as engage in professional growth and leadership.
The Education Foundation extended this plan to include libraries at Kilgore Intermediate School, Maude Laird Middle School and Kilgore High School. Each of those libraries will also receive iPads and e-readers for student check out. These devices will be available for student access to an increasing collection of digital learning resources.
Board members voted to approve the use of $50,100 toward the purchase of equipment with the understanding that it will supplement the academic goals and objectives of the district. Bobby Beane, Board President, stated, “This is the next step. We want our students to have access to the digital tools to help them excel.”
