’Dogs beat Gladewater in district opener

Kilgore High School’s tennis team has met many challenges so far this fall season, and more often than not, the Bulldogs have came out on top.
Kilgore defeated Gladewater, 18-1, and 22-1 overall, in Monday’s District 16-3A opener.
The Bulldogs have a big day this Saturday at home; they’ll host Center at 9:30 a.m., and A&M Consolidated at 2 p.m.
Kilgore’s boys swept doubles play, winning all three matches, 8-1, and the boys also swept in singles. Takashi Thomas beat Luis Flores, 8-4; Sanjit Lanka defeated Jason McCoy, 8-0; Bryn Heil defeated Brandon Day, 8-1; Jesse Presley beat Brandon Myer, 8-0; Evan Knutsen beat Aaron Armstrong, 8-1; Nash Best beat Geoffrey Freeman, 8-1; and Rohit Lanka beat Tyler Ray, 8-1.

Kilgore's girls singles swept, as well. Autria Compton beat Megan Morris, 2-1 (default); Sabrina Barnfield beat Natalie Pelleygelle, 8-2; Ally Venable beat Maggie Bright, 8-2; Jessica Stokes beat Claire Alley, 8-3; Marissa Lane beat Leah Rives, 8-1; Jasleen Cabrera beat Mirenda Reid, 8-4; and Sherry Huerta beat Katie Johnston, 8-0. Kilgore’s girls won all three doubles matches, as well. Only Kilgore’s mixed doubles team lost.
